Sony PS5 Pro Launch in India Officially Canceled
Mumbai, India – Sony Interactive Entertainment has confirmed the cancellation of the PS5 Pro launch in India. The news comes as a disappointment to gamers in the country who were eagerly anticipating the arrival of the console.
The PS5 Pro, released globally in 2023, features enhanced hardware for improved graphics and performance. The console has been met with positive reviews in other markets.
According to Sony’s official statement, the PS5 Pro will not be available in countries where the 6GHz wireless band used in WiFi 7 has not been approved for use. In India, there is an ongoing dispute between cellular operators and IT companies over the allocation of the 6GHz spectrum. Cellular operators advocate for licensing it solely for 5G services, while IT companies argue for unlicensed usage for WiFi.
The lack of a clear policy has resulted in the decision to cancel the PS5 Pro launch in India via official channels. However, the console is still available through third-party retailers. It is important to note that unofficial purchases may carry risks and lack warranty coverage.
The PS5 Pro was expected to retail in India for approximately Rs. 58,000 to Rs. 68,000. However, third-party sellers are reportedly charging inflated prices of close to Rs. 1 lakh.
Sony has expressed regret for the disappointment caused by this decision but emphasized the challenges posed by the current regulatory environment in India. The company has stated that it will continue to monitor the situation and explore options for a future launch in the country.
