CM Yogi Adityanath Fires Shots at BJP Meeting, Questions ‘Overconfidence’ After UP Poll Loss
Lucknow: At a recent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) meeting, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched a scathing critique of the party’s performance in the recent assembly elections, attributing the defeat to overconfidence.
“Our defeat in the elections is a cause for introspection,” Adityanath told party leaders. “We had become overly confident and neglected the concerns of the common people.”
Sources within the BJP said that Adityanath was particularly critical of the party’s campaign strategy, which he argued had failed to adequately address issues affecting voters.
Adityanath’s comments come amidst growing dissatisfaction within the BJP over the party’s loss in Uttar Pradesh, a state it had governed for the past five years. The defeat has raised questions about the party’s future electoral prospects, with many blaming a disconnect between the party leadership and the electorate.
Party insiders said that while some leaders supported Adityanath’s critique, others defended the party’s campaign strategy, arguing that it had focused on the right issues.
The BJP’s defeat in Uttar Pradesh is seen as a major setback for the party, which has been trying to expand its footprint in northern India. The loss has also sparked speculation about a possible change in leadership, with some quarters calling for a new president to be appointed.
