Kargil Vijay Diwas: Fighter Jets Soar in Commemoration, Honouring Fallen Soldiers

Kargil War 25th Anniversary: IAF Pays Tribute to Martyrs

On the 25th anniversary of the Kargil War, the Indian Air Force (IAF) conducted a flypast over the Drass War Memorial, paying homage to the gallant soldiers who laid down their lives in the conflict.

The flypast included fighter jets from the IAF’s frontline squadrons, which flew in a “Missing Man” formation, a traditional tribute to fallen comrades. The aircraft peeled away one by one, leaving an empty space in the sky to symbolize the loss of life.

IAF helicopters also carried out a wreath-laying ceremony at the memorial, where Air Chief Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhari laid a wreath on behalf of the Air Force.

The ceremony honored the supreme sacrifice made by the Indian soldiers during the Kargil War, which erupted on May 3, 1999, when Pakistani soldiers infiltrated Indian positions along the Line of Control in the Kargil sector of Jammu and Kashmir.

The IAF played a crucial role in the Indian military’s response, providing close air support to ground troops and conducting aerial reconnaissance missions.

“The flypast is a token of our gratitude and respect for the fallen heroes who fought tooth and nail in the treacherous Kargil terrain,” said Air Chief Marshal Chaudhari. “Their sacrifice will forever inspire us to serve the nation with dedication and valor.”
