Karnataka: CBI to Probe Valmiki Scam Case
Bengaluru (Karnataka): The Karnataka High Court has ordered the state government to issue a notice to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for the transfer of the Valmiki scam case.
The alleged scam pertains to irregularities in the Valmiki Ambedkar Housing Corporation, a state-owned corporation responsible for providing housing to slum dwellers.
The court’s directive came in response to a petition filed by social activist T.J. Abraham and others. The petitioners argued that the local police had failed to conduct a thorough investigation, and that the CBI should take over the case to ensure impartiality and transparency.
The court has given the state government four weeks to issue the necessary notice to the CBI and file a report on the matter. The CBI is expected to begin its probe once the transfer is officially complete.
The Valmiki scam has been making headlines for several years, with allegations of corruption, misappropriation of funds, and substandard construction practices. The involvement of senior government officials and politicians has also been raised.
The CBI’s investigation is seen as a significant development in the case. Its specialised units and resources are expected to expedite the probe and bring the truth to light.
