Over 100,000 Vehicles Join Delhi’s Cab and Delivery Scheme
The Delhi government’s transport department announced that over one lakh vehicles from 21 different cab aggregators, e-commerce firms, and delivery service providers have signed up for the Motor Vehicle Aggregator and Delivery Service Provider Scheme.
The scheme mandates that entities with over 25 vehicles register and obtain a license. It also sets deadlines for fleet electrification and imposes penalties ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 1,00,000 for non-compliance.
Some of the companies that have enrolled in the scheme include ANI Technologies (Ola), Uber India, Zomato Ltd, Blink Commerce, Smartshift Logistics, and Roppen Transportation Services. These companies operate a fleet of electric, petrol, and CNG-powered two, three, and four-wheeler vehicles.
Smartshift Logistics has the largest fleet with over 50,000 vehicles, followed by ANI Technologies with 36,000 and Zomato with 22,000.
Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot said the positive response to the scheme shows businesses’ trust in the government’s vision for sustainable urban mobility. He added that the initiative will promote green mobility and enhance safety and service quality in the transport sector.
The scheme was introduced in November 2023 and aims to regulate and license players in the delivery and cab aggregation industries. It requires new and existing operators to obtain a license within 90 days of its notification or before starting operations. The license is valid for five years with annual fees, except for electric vehicles which are exempt from fees.
